We aren’t in Scotland anymore, Toto

You’re right! Our furry little Highland Cattle are naturally found in the Scottish Highlands. They made their way to Australia with the early Scottish settlers, dating back to 1829. From the 1970’s, artificial breeding has been the major source of breed development in Australia. Straws from overseas sires continue to ensure new bloodlines are introduced into the herd book.

At Cedar Brae in the Moreton Shire, we have a small fold of breeding cows and their calves. Our sturdy ladies have been bred in South East Queensland, so they have grown accustomed to our warmer climate.

For the last 30 years, Karl has been running Droughtmaster cattle in the South East as a hobby and distraction from the hustle and bustle of regular life. In 2023, Karl and Elle took a keen interest in raising Highland Cattle, to enable these beautiful souls to find forever homes in hobby farms across the South-East.

If you are a hobbyist and are looking for a fluffy Highland for your acreage, head to our contact page for our details. Karl will be delighted to talk to you about all things cattle in the Great South-East.
